Free coffee!

OK, so puppies got you here but it’s not click-bait, I promise. Given it’s a new year and a busy end to 2019 kept me indoors, I’m happy to buy anybody coffee wanting or willing to reconnect and talk plans for 2020.

It goes without saying but 2019 was a huge year for Floodlight. The year started with a bang by opening an office in Melbourne. From humble beginnings in an industrial estate co-working space, we’ve now got a proper little studio setup on the banks of Merri Creek in Northcote with new staff coming on board.

March also saw our biggest project of 2019 with the creation of MGA Insurance’s new advertising campaign that included four TVC’s, photography/print and radio ads. I had the opportunity to attend the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas for the second time. Highlights included going to the world premiere of What We Do In The Shadows, hearing from the CEO of Afterpay, and seeing some of the world’s best up and coming bands. I also got to visit NASA in Houston, which is a massive nerd bucket list item checked off!

Another big TVC suite came our way with KWP! calling on us to produce their campaign for Foodland. We also worked closely with our direct partners, including a trip to Germany with Siemens, travelling out to Silverton, NSW, to cover the construction of the monumental Silverton Wind Farm and working with Neoen on solar and wind sites right around the country. We also had the opportunity to work on a number of projects with Naval Group, leading Australia’s future submarine program. One of the great things about this job is having the chance to learn about so many different industries and now we can add submarine construction to the list!

The year was capped off with the annual AADC awards. We brought the entire team along this year and lucky, because we were able to take out six finalist nominations for our work on MGA and People’s Choice Credit Union (for KWP!). It was a brilliant way to wrap up the year and has also inspired us to bring home a trophy in 2020.

On 2020, there is already some exciting murmurings happening at Floodlight HQ as we work in the background to properly setup new service offerings that we can offer to our partners. We’ll announce what that formally looks like in the next few months… or I can give you a sneak peak over coffee or peppermint tea?
